Claim about a man sentenced to death for stealing fowl is false – Lawyer warns Adeleke
According to a report by The Nation, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mutalubi Adebayo has cautioned Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke against plans to pardon a robbery convict.
The convict, Olowookere Segun, was sentenced to death by hanging in 2014 for armed robbery alongside Morakinyo Sunday.
The two were found guilty of robbing a police officer and residents of Odo-Otin Local Government in 2010, using a Dane gun and cutlasses.
However, public sympathy arose when reports alleged the conviction was solely for stealing a fowl.
In response, Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, stated that the case was under investigation, and a possible pardon was being considered.
Adebayo, however, warned against misleading narratives, stating: “The claim that the convict was sentenced to death for stealing a fowl is a falsehood aimed at manipulating public sentiment to secure undue pardon. Such misinformation undermines the judiciary and promotes baseless attacks on the legal system.”
The case continues to generate widespread attention and debate.
