Congressman to file articles of impeachment against Trump – Report
According to Al Jazeera, US Congressman Al Green has announced his intention to file articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing the president’s recent comments regarding Gaza as the catalyst for this action.
During a passionate speech on the House floor, Green stated, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America.”
He further declared, “I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”
Green’s remarks come in response to Trump’s controversial proposal made during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he suggested that the U.S. could take control of Gaza and facilitate the relocation of its Palestinian population.
Trump described Gaza as a “demolition site,” asserting that “the only reason the Palestinians want to go back to Gaza is they have no alternative.” His comments have been interpreted by many as advocating for what they consider ethnic cleansing, drawing sharp criticism from Democrats and human rights advocates alike.
The congressman emphasized that Trump’s comments reflect a dangerous disregard for human rights and international law. “Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the president of the United States,” Green said, denouncing both Trump’s remarks and Netanyahu’s complicity in them. He argued that such proposals undermine justice not only abroad but also domestically.
While Green has been a vocal critic of Trump since his first term, this latest move marks his renewed commitment to holding the president accountable for what he sees as grave injustices.
Despite Green’s fervent call for impeachment, Democratic leadership appears hesitant to support this initiative at this time.
Representative Pete Aguilar, chair of the House Democratic Caucus, remarked that impeachment is “not a focus of the caucus.”
Responses from Republican lawmakers have varied; some expressed surprise at Trump’s comments while others defended them as bold and necessary for regional stability. House Speaker Mike Johnson characterized Trump’s proposal as “a bold move” but refrained from endorsing any specific military action.
