Badenoch proposes harder conditions for immigrants dreaming to become UK citizens
Kemi Badenoch, UK Conservative leader, has announced plans to make it harder for immigrants to obtain British citizenship, according to DAILY POST reports.
Under her proposed policy, immigrants would only be eligible to apply for citizenship after 15 years in the UK, a significant increase from the current requirement.
According to DAILY POST reports, The UK Conservative leader, while making one of her first policy announcements since she became leader, Badenoch said immigrants would only be able to apply for citizenship after being in the UK for 15 years.
Badenoch also stated that indefinite leave to remain (ILR) should not be granted to individuals with criminal records or those who have claimed benefits or social housing.
She emphasized that citizenship is a privilege, not a right, and should be reserved for those with a meaningful connection to the UK.
Currently, ILR allows individuals to live, work, and study in the UK after meeting certain residency requirements, usually five years.
Badenoch’s proposals mark a tougher stance on immigration policies.
