FIFA HAS NOT TOLD US ABOUT ANY DECISION TAKEN ON DR. CONGO’S PLAYERS’ ELIGIBILITY DISPUTE – NFF
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has clarified its position regarding the ongoing dispute over the eligibility of certain Democratic Republic of Congo players who featured in the 2026 World Cup African play-off against the Super Eagles, according to Daily Post.
The clarification comes amid media reports suggesting that FIFA had dismissed Nigeria’s appeal following the Super Eagles’ defeat to DR Congo in the play-off final. NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed that the federation has not received any official communication from FIFA on the matter.
“The Nigeria Football Federation wrote a petition to FIFA on the eligibility of some of the players of DR Congo, and if there is anything, FIFA will reply to the NFF,” Sanusi stated during an interview on AIT.
He further emphasized that the federation has not received any letters from FIFA indicating that the petition was rejected. “We have checked our emails, and there was no letter from FIFA,” he added.
The NFF also reiterated that the situation is still under consideration, and no final decision has been communicated by FIFA. The federation’s clarification is aimed at correcting misinformation and ensuring that the official position is accurately represented.
The petition was lodged following Nigeria’s loss to DR Congo in the play-off, raising questions about the eligibility of certain DR Congo players.
