Salem University VC charges matriculating global leaders to be of good behaviour
Vice Chancellor of Salem University, Lokoja, Professor Alewo Johnson Akubo has charge the new students to be of good behaviour and strive for the best during their stay in the university.
He said that the new students (2025/2026 Global Leaders) should be bold enough to take risk in all they do.
“The greatest achievement is a product of the greatest challenge ” he pointed out, adding that they should not be afraid to take risk.
Professor Johnson made the remarks while addressing matriculating students of 2025/2026 session on Friday, 6th February 2026.
He admonished them to live according to the dictates of the core values of the University, which which he pointed out, include obedience, truthfulness, discipline and excellence, among others.
He added, “we will mentor you, and provide you with requisite resources, to make your learning meaningful on the campus.”
The Vice Chancellor who reeled out some of achievements of the university, added that some new courses have been established in recent time, to bolster the academic values of the university.
Above all, he maintained that they should fear God in all their endeavours, saying, “you are trained to make a difference, as global leaders outside the walls of the university.”
Growth, he pointed out was the virtue they must live for; quoting the words of the Chancellor of the University, Archbishop (Dr.) Sam Amaga, he said, “20 children don’t play together for 20 years”.
He prayed for them not to stagnate in life, adding that they should grow in order to fulfill destiny.
The 18th Matriculation was witnessed by Dean’s of colleges, invited guests, parents/guardians, friends of the university and regular students.
The occasion was marked by prayer, praise/worship and anointing of the new students, by the university Chaplain, Pastor Uche.
Some of the personalities that were present include, Professor Sunday Okpanachi, (Deputy Vice Chancellor), Dr. Adejoh Emmanuel (Registrar), Mr. Olopade Gboyega (Bursar), and Mr. Salifu Jeremiah (University Librarian).
Some of the Dean’s of Colleges that witnessed the event are: Professor Atakpa Moses Egene, Professor Emmanuel Isah Momoh, Associate Professor Sanni Felix Ayegba, Associate Professor Umoru Joel Drisu, Dr. Adejoh Emmanuel Maji and Dr. Nuhu Ocheni.
Others are Professor Igono Joshua Abdul, Professor (Mrs ) Ali Hassana Osiewu, Professor Christopher Molokwu, Mr. Obihan Ifeanyi, Mrs. Pepple Nne Michael and Mr. Idoko Eleojo Jeremiah.
