“Get knowledge, also get skill” – Dr. Alfred Oladapo at SU Founder’s Day
Harvard University trained leadership expert, Dr. Alfred Oladapo has enjoined those that intend to succeed in life to acquire knowledge and skills.
Speaking in what he tagged “Tripod of life/success”, he pointed out that money is not the first consideration, if one is considering to establish a business venture.
The leadership consultant, who was the guest speaker, at this year’s Founder’s Day celebration, at Salem University, Lokoja explained what he considered the tripod of life.
He said the first step in life is to acquire knowledge (intellectual capital), social capital and lastly financial capital.
Dr. Alfred explained that those that consider finance first, in any venture, often fail or cannot go far, adding “money is never the sustainer of any business.”
He stressed that intellectual capital has two branches, namely, knowledge and skill.
Acquisition of knowledge he maintained is what academic institutions provide, but according to him skill acquisition is on another level entirely.
According to him, knowledge is not enough, because skill explains the “how to”, stressing that knowledge alone, can be grossly inadequate in achieving results.
He said, “everybody has the degree you have, but the difference is that how many of you have the requisite skills to make things work.”
“You can never be rich by knowledge but by skill. To actualize what God has showed you, you need knowledge, complemented by skill”, he pointed out
Salem University Founder’s Day is an event that commemorates the founding of the ivory tower, envisioned to provide solutions to some of the world’s challenges.
The three-day program which started on Monday 18 May 2026, was brought to a close on Wednesday 20 May, 2026.
It was also a great moment of refreshing, as the Vice Chancellor, Professor Alewo Johnson Akubo, on Monday, rendered a challenging keynote address, on the theme of the celebration “Leaders of Influence. “
The entire university community participated fully in the event.
