Why I cannot resolve my conflict with Fubara – Wike
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has dismissed the likelihood of resolving his conflict with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara. The dispute, which has persisted since Fubara assumed office, revolves around a power struggle over the state’s political and structural resources.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Wike criticized Fubara and his allies for failing to follow President Bola Tinubu’s directives from a peace meeting. Wike noted that the directives, including withdrawing an impeachment notice, were partially followed, but Fubara’s camp did not complete the process or report back to Tinubu.
According to DAILY POST reports, Wike said, “I’m wondering, what conflict to resolve? Mr President, in his wisdom, called all parties. He said withdraw the impeachment notice, you go and do this, you go and do that, but they never returned to him.”
The rift has deeply impacted Rivers politics, leading to the defection of 27 lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the emergence of factional speakers, and a parallel state assembly. Wike expressed frustration, stating, “I’ve never seen a situation where a president intervenes, and one party disregards the directives. Who does that?”
