Tinubu pays opposition party leaders N50m to compromise democracy – Atiku
A former presidential candidate has made a shocking accusation against the current government, alleging that they are paying opposition leaders large sums of money to undermine the democratic process.
According to Daily Post, the accusation was made by Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, at a national conference on strengthening democracy. According to Atiku, the government is paying opposition leaders 50 million naira each to compromise the country’s democracy.
Atiku expressed concerns about the erosion of democratic values in the country, criticizing the National Assembly for being a rubber stamp for the government and questioning the credibility of the electoral umpire. He also shared a personal anecdote, recounting how he met with opposition party leaders who confessed to receiving the payments from the government.
Atiku warned that some individuals may be recipients of these payments, asking rhetorically if they truly wanted to fight for democracy. He called for opposition parties to unite and take action, reflecting on his own decades-long struggle for democracy, which included personal sacrifices such as an attempt on his life, seizure of his businesses, and exile.
