El-Rufai gives more proofs Ribadu called Tinubu “corrupt”, as EFCC chairman
The immediate past Governor of Kaduna State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir El-Rufai, has stirred up a flurry of reactions from Nigerians with a post in which he provided evidence proving that the current National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, during his time as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), declared his now boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, then Governor of Lagos State, as corrupt.
El-Rufai, who was then the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, provided the evidence in a post on X (formerly Twitter) to debunk Ribadu’s denial that he ever accused Tinubu of corruption, following allegations to that effect by the leader of Northern Star, Naja’atu Muhammad.
Muhammad, in a viral TikTok video, claimed that Ribadu, as Chairman of the EFCC, discredited President Bola Tinubu and other top politicians who are currently in government, including the former Governor of Benue State, now Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the former Governor of Abia State, now a senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.
She claimed that Ribadu had vowed in 2007 that he would frustrate the then-governors Tinubu, Akume, and Kalu.
But Ribadu, in a letter by his lawyer, Ahmed Raji, SAN, on Tuesday, denied the allegation and demanded a public apology and retraction from Muhammad.
The letter stated that Ribadu “has never maintained such a viewpoint” against any of the three politicians, describing the allegation as damaging to the NSA. The lawyer challenged Muhammad “to provide evidence of your allegations.”
El-Rufai shared a photo of an old newspaper cutout that supported Muhammad’s claim.
He noted in the post that Nuhu must have serious amnesia, insisting that Muhammad’s statement was accurate.
According to El-Rufai, further proof of the accuracy of Muhammad’s claims could be found in the record of proceedings of the Senate sometime in 2006, where Ribadu made those statements.
The post further read:
“The conclusions of the Federal Executive Council in 2006, which can be subpoenaed from the Cabinet Secretariat of the SGF’s office, contain the allegations.
“In that special FEC meeting, in which I was a member, Nuhu’s EFCC made similar presentations accusing many sitting officials sometime in 2006.
“These Council Conclusions will further remove all doubts.”
