WILFRED NDIDI IS SUPER EAGLES’ NEW CAPTAIN
In a key leadership decision ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle has appointed Wilfred Ndidi as the new captain of the Super Eagles following the retirement of former skipper William Troost-Ekong.
According to OwnGoalNigeria. Ekong’s departure, announced two weeks ago, left a crucial leadership void in the squad just days before the tournament kicks off.
Ndidi will be supported by Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi as vice-captains, while Victor Osimhen has been designated as the team’s fourth captain.
This leadership structure is designed to ensure experience and guidance are present across the field, from midfield to attack.
The appointments will be formally communicated to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the team ahead of the competition.
The Super Eagles are set to open their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on December 23, following the tournament’s start on December 21.
Nigeria enters the competition with high expectations, aiming to surpass their runner-up finish in the previous edition, where they fell 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
