BREAKING: AT LAST, EGUME GETS NEW ONU
At last, the people of Egume and Okura District have the cause to rejoice as a new paramount chief has emerged, after the demise of the last chief, His Royal Highness, Etila Ajeka, who passed on in November 2022, at the age of 78.
Since then, controversy has surrounded and shrouded the selection of his successor.
Exactly two years after HRH Etila’s death, a successor was selected in November 2024, but before announcement and preparation for his coronation were made, he passed on, in his sleep, under a mysterious circumstance.
The new chief, HRH Ochimana Simon has overcome many odds, as usual, to get himself appointed, in the face of a flurry of petitions from other ruling houses, which were contending for the plum, royal office.
Onu Egume Stool is a First Class stool, which is also the office in charge of Okura District.
With this appointment, the community and well-wishers of Egume and Okura District expects the contenders that lost out to sheath swords, in the interest of peace and development of the community.
Having passed all the screening hurdles from the ruling royal houses (Kingmakers), Dekina Divisional Council test and Igala Traditional Council phase, it could be concluded that the process was legitimate and thorough.
The appointed chief is from Ata Edogbanya Royal House, one of the four royal houses in Egume.
